BACKGROUND OF THE SELECTED CITIES
Beijing China's capital city, political and cultural center. Its economic growth is up by 9% over the previous year in 2009. Faculty staff number is 71,831 while 50,237 are full-time teachers. Buildings and construction area of 10,267,042 square meters, fixed assets worth 16.77 billion Yuan of which instruments and equipment assets worth 1.894 billion Yuan.

Chongqing

Chongqing is short for ¡®YU' and is the only city directly under the jurisdiction of the central government in western China. The new Chongqing is as large as 82.4 thousand sqm with a population of 31.07 million and Chongqing's internal GDP is up to 411 billion during year 2009.

There is total amount of 56 higher education schools in the city, which 341 secondary vocational schools, 1,361 regular secondary schools and 7,990 primary schools.

Shanghai

Qingdao

Qingdao is an very important port and economic center of China, and also known as China's first 14 open-up coastal cities. The city has Qingdao University, Shandong University of Technology and China University of Petroleum (Qingdao Campus) in total Of 11 institutes of higher education, to be regarded as a development zone which has most colleges of higher learning, and has gained the ¡°China Human Settlement Environment¡± award. Qingdao is also the largest port city in China, daily transportation, financial services and information technology distribution center along the eastern shore of the Yellow River valley, with a population of 700 million people.

Guangzhou

Guangzhou, is an important trading center as well as a busy port and the capital city of China's Guangdong province. The city has an area of over 16,000 square kilometers, with a household register population of 7.6 million people, and a resident population of 10 million people.

The city's graduate education has graduates of 335 people, 661 enrollment while 1,625 at school. It also has 10 municipal administration colleges and universities which offer regular undergraduate and junior college education, and an adult college. The number of graduates is 24,411, including 5,841 undergraduates and 18,570 junior college students, enrollment number are 28,161 while 91,460 at school. Guangzhou's specialty education for adult has two municipal adult college, the number of graduates is 1,521, enrollment 1,848, 4,397 at school. Also as correspondence, evening and full-time courses, it has 16,043 graduates in total. Including: undergraduate 4,223 people and junior college 11,820 people, enrollment number are 19,787 while 64,513 at school. Moreover, the city has 22 other non-governmental or private institutions, of which has 2,670 graduates.

Guangzhou has 88 general secondary schools in provincial level, 219,595 people at school, including, 89,822 junior secondary school students and 129,773 high school students. 95 schools in municipal level, 135.820 people at school, including, junior secondary school students 115,392 people and high school students 20,428 people.
